Removal Project-Remove Tile

Removal Tile by Electric Breaker

Removal Tiles by Electrical Breaker

Using an electric breaker (or jackhammer) to remove tiles is a powerful method for tackling tough tile removal projects. Here are the steps to follow for effective and safe removal:

Tools and Materials Needed:
  • Electric breaker (jackhammer) with chisel / moil points attachment

  • Safety goggles

  • Heavy-duty gloves

  • Hearing protection (earplugs or earmuffs)

  • Dust mask

  • Shovel or pry bar

  • Hammer (if necessary)

  • Bucket for debris

  • Protective clothing (e.g., long sleeves and pants)

Steps for Tile Removal with an Electric Breaker:

  • Clear the area: Remove any furniture, rugs, or obstacles from the room.

  • Protect surfaces: Use a plastic sheet or tarps to cover and protect surfaces like walls, cabinets, or furniture.

  • Safety gear: Ensure you're wearing safety goggles, gloves, a dust mask, and hearing protection.

  • Set Up the Electric Breaker:

-Attach a flat chisel or tile chisel to the electric breaker. These attachments are designed to break up tiles.

-Check the breaker for proper operation before beginning, ensuring it’s securely assembled.

  • Test the Tile Removal:

-Start by testing a small area of tile to get a feel for how the breaker works. Place the chisel between the grout lines or edge of the tile.

  • Use the Breaker to Loosen the Tiles:

-Turn on the breaker and carefully position the chisel underneath the edge of the tile or grout lines.

-Keep the tool at a slight angle and move it slowly along the edges of the tile, ensuring you don’t damage the subfloor or underlying surface.

-The breaker should loosen the tiles, which will begin to crack and come up. For stubborn tiles, work around the perimeter to loosen the entire tile.

  • Remove Tiles:

-Once a tile is cracked and loosened, use a shovel or pry bar to lift it from the surface.

-Repeat the process for the remaining tiles.

  • Clean Up:

-After removing the tiles, there will be debris on the floor. Use a shovel to collect larger pieces, and a broom and dustpan to clean up smaller bits. -If necessary, use the breaker to remove any adhesive or mortar left on the subfloor. This method is highly effective but can be noisy and messy, so take precautions to protect yourself and the surroundings.
